Marvin G. Shields Memorial 2026

Family and friends gathered to remember Marvin Glenn Shields on May 23, 2026. Marvin is the only Seabee awarded the Medal of Honor, and the first sailor in the Vietnam War to be so honored. The Seabees, who come every year to honor one of their own, were represented by Commodore (Captain) Angel Santiago, Commander Naval Construction Group One from Port Hueneme, CA, and Cdr. Brian Christopher (now Captain), Executive Officer, Naval Facilities Engineering Command, North West, as well as Seabees from local commands. The American Heritage Girls Troupe and riders from the Elks and Sequim American Legion also participated. Marvin graduated from Port Townsend High School in 1958 and was inducted into the PTHS Hall of Fame in it’s first year of public nominations.
